Asbestos
Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous mineral. Because of its heat resistant properties it has been incorporated into a range of manufactured goods including siding, shingles, roofing, floor tile, ceiling tile, gaskets, brake shoes, textiles, insulating products, bricks, cements and fire-resistant coatings. The asbestos fibers in products may be released as dust, float in the air and be inhaled or swallowed. Asbestos-containing products were widely used in various industries for many years including construction and building trades, refractory industry, shipbuilding, asbestos mining and milling, and chemical manufacturing. There is no safe level of exposure to asbestos.
Diseases caused by exposure to asbestos usually do not occur until many years after a worker is first exposed. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer, the only known cause of which is exposure to asbestos. Asbestos exposure also has been linked with lung cancer and certain other cancers of the digestive tract. Furthermore, the breathing of asbestos fibers can cause asbestosis, resulting in permanent scarring of the lungs and impairment of breathing.
If you have an asbestos-related disease, you may have the right to bring a lawsuit against those responsible for your injuries. For further information, you may contact Bailey, Stultz, Oldaker & Greene toll free at 1-866-266-6853.
